TIM
CAHILL
DIRECTOR
Tim is one of the most popular footballers in the world with a huge following in the UK, Asia, Australia and the South Pacific and it's easy to see why. He is one of the most important members of the current Everton FC team and has been since his transfer from Millwall in the 2004-05 season. Internationally Tim represents Australia and carved his name into football legend when, in 2006, he became Australia's first ever goal scorer at a Fifa World Cup when his 2 goals ignited a come from behind 3-1 victory against Japan, one of the sports great comebacks. 2006 also proved to be a memorable year off the field for Tim as he was nominated as a finalist for the prestigious Ballon d'Or award for World Footballer of the year. Since then Tim has continued to shine for both club and country and is currently playing a pivotal role in helping Everton climb up the English Premiership ladder as well as assisting Australia qualify for the 2010 Fifa World Cup which is now in it's final group stages.
Tim is also well known for the work he does off the pitch with his various charities and good causes. ESA is no different and is an important project for Tim as he has a passion to see youngsters achieve their dreams of professional sport, especially when their situation makes it hard to turn these dreams into a reality. This mirrors Tim's own personal path into the top flight. The ESA programmes represent a pathway which is an opportunity of a lifetime. A lot of Tim's off field causes are based on improving the lives of the world's youth and none more so than in Samoa. Tim has a proud Samoan heritage (the full length tattoo on his left arm is a traditional Samoan and tells of Tim's life from ancestral roots to present day) and regularly returns to the island to run his local, village based charities.
When schedules allow, Tim will be a regular visitor to ESA and will participate in assisting the football coaching staff as well as acting as a lecturer in the ESA off field programmes.
