Does my child have to attend Repton School to be accepted into ESA?
No. Elite Sporting Academy is open for anybody to apply.
Will ESA fixtures clash with existing club and school commitments?
No, ESA wants its students to play as much as possible for both their schools and their clubs as this is an avenue to showcase what they have learnt at the academy. ESA will work with the necessary contacts to make sure that clashes don't happen.
How do I know if my child is worthy of a place at ESA?
The initial intake will be an 16 week introductory course starting February 22nd. From the 3rd week of January, ESA will contact all relevant coaches and managers of both schools and clubs as well as ask the schools Physical Education staff to nominate potential ESA students. An approach will be made to both the child and the parent informing them of the programmes and opportunity available. If a parent thinks themselves that their child would relish in the ESA environment then they should contact ESA direct.
If my child is accepted into ESA does this mean they have automatic entry the following year?
For the initial 16 week introductory programme starting in February 2009, students who are enrolled for that will have the first priority to return for the full syllabus programmes which will start coinciding with the new 2009/10 academic year. From then at the conclusion of each year students must be invited back by ESA. This will be done formally in letter format.
When and how will my child be exposed in front of overseas talent scouts?
From the beginning of the full syllabus (October 2009) ESA will bring out scouts, coaches, managers from various places on a monthly basis to view and give feedback to ESA staff on all age groups. The scouts maybe suitably impressed at this stage and directly invite the student(s) to trial abroad. These various places include professional and semi professional clubs, top academies and universities. At the conclusion of the senior year at ESA, which will be when the student is 17-18 years old, a group will tour Europe then play and trial at various professional academies and clubs.
Is ESA open to both boys and girls?
Yes, it's ESA's intention to accept females but not in the initial introductory program. ESA will advertise for the September intake in due course.
Can my child apply for more than 1 sport?
If a child displays enough potential in more than 1 sport to warrant dual selection then a discussion will be held between the head of the respective sports, the parents, the child's physical education teacher and the ESA managing director. A lot of factors need to be taken into consideration and the result will always be what is deemed best for the child's welfare.
How many places are available at ESA?
Places at ESA vary. Footballs intake starts at 10 years of age while Rugby begins at 12 years. The groups are broken down into under 10s, 12s, 14s & 16s with 60 places available in each group. Trainings are in small groups to order for students to receive vital one to one advice and coaching from ESA staff.
What is the cost for my child to attend ESA?
Prices are age dependant as different ages will attend ESA on different regularities. As well as this some age groups will attend more classroom based lectures and will need the required materials. The pricelist and course structure for the upcoming 16 week introductory course will be posted on this website by January 25th, 2009.
