TESA also announce: Football & Rugby tours for 2010
TESA are pleased to announce that they will be embarking on major tours in 2010, in fact for rugby there will be 2 tours. In the Easter break TESA Rugby will be touring New Zealand for matches before playing one in Australia on the way home. In July TESA Football will be attending the Kanga Cup, the biggest schools and academies tournament in the Southern Hemisphere which hosts teams from all over the world. Destination for the Kanga Cup is Canberra, Australia. Also in July TESA Rugby will be heading to London to play the academy from one of the world's biggest clubs in WASPS and confirmation will be coming through soon of one more match against another major London premiership club.
TESA Director John Mamea-Wilson says that a fundraising structure has been put into place to assist in financing the tours and keep the cost down for parents.
"We are undertaking a huge project organising these tours but they will be beneficial for the childrens growth both on the park and off it. The aim is to give the children world class competition so that they know the level they need to strive for to be competitive in their chosen sport. Funds will be raised for the tour through events and raffles and it will take alot of commitment in this regard from everybody who wants to step on the plane, parents included."
More information will be given to parents in the near future.
"The Human Wrecking Ball Rolls Into TESA"
He was once described by current Wales coach Warren Gatland as being the best hooker in world rugby. Trevor Leota, the Samoa international, Heineken Cup winner, multiple Guiness premiership winner and London Wasps legend has joined the TESA Rugby coaching staff to assist in taking TESA rugby to the next level. Leota finshed his time at Wasps, which spanned 9 memorable years, in 2005 and has since played for the Cheetahs in the Super 14 and Currie Cup competitions and was last season playing for French Top 14 club Mont de Marsan.
"To have Trevor here at TESA is another major coup for us." says director John Mamea-Wilson "He was and still is a world class player, he's a cult figure in world rugby and he has a genuine passion for developing youth rugby."
Leota already has a history in forming development initiatives with his 'Trevor Leota - School of hard knocks' where he taught rugby to children from disadvantaged backgrounds and troubled youth.
"The values that rugby instilled in me and all other players playing the game were the same values missing from the lives of these kids." Leota, 34 says
"Respect, teamwork and not taking shortcuts was easy for me to promote because that's the rugby ethos. What I was doing was getting the kids to channel their energy into something positive which would then bring them rewards, not only in matches but in life."
Now Leota gets to pass on his wisdom and expertise to the TESA Rugby kids and is looking forward to the new stage in his illustrious and colourful career.
"I'm here to help because I believe in what TESA are trying to achieve. These children may not be disadvantaged like the kids from my 'school of hard knocks' were but it's obvious in my short time here that they are disadvantaged in quality coaching and geniune pathways to further their rugby professionally."
